Hi Diane,

Thanks for your comments on Christians & BF. Really well put. As a
Christian, I am often appalled at what passes for "what Christians believe"
in the media, and think much of what gets in there is distorted. Not to
mention, we are all thrown into the same pot in the media and assumed that
all Christians are the radical right. (Guess it depends on your definition
of radical right. Sometimes anything right of liberal left is radical,
right?) It has been my experience too that Christian women are more likely
to bf as a group - in our evangelical church of over 2000, there are few, if
any, women who initiate bottle feeding (with the exception of one of our
doctor's wives). (Why does that sound a bit polygamous??) though I'm not
sure of the longevity of the bf. And more of them stay home with their
children than in the general populace too. I was one of the few working
mothers, and am one of the few traveling mothers in the church. Fortunately
they love me anyway! :) (Doing what I do for lactation sanctions it, I
guess) However, I do know there are some (is one?) programs that teach rigid
scheduling, opposition to LLLI, opposition to "marsupial mothering" and claim
that Mary and all the Jewish mothers in Bible times didn't have time to be bf
on demand so they all bf on a schedule, etc. in the name of doing it "God's
way." Please be aware that not ALL Christians ascribe to this program, and
despite the name, I can find no Biblical evidence, either Old or New
Testament that makes their program "God's way."

Sorry for that soapbox - just had another mom who asked me what I thought of
zzzz program, and I had to spout off.

Jan B.
