The breastfeeding related questions posed by Annette in her question
about the mother at 27 weeks gestational age who has become permanently
sensitized and will have to be delivered prematurely.have already been
answered adequately in Lactnet.

However, there have been several replies quoting generalities and/or
downright misinformation about pregnancy in this population. This is
disturbing to me professionally, as I wouldn't want some of that
misinformation used by LC's and others who are trying to be supportive to
mothers who are RH negative.

Being Rh negative is NOT a negative or unfavorable or unfortunate
condition. It is just as normal and, as I understand it, about as
prevalent as being a redhead. But it must be managed correctly in
pregnancy to avoid chances of potentially fatal consequences to the baby,
and any future babies this mother conceives.

I sent private replies to several of the individuals who posted, and if
there are others who would like to get my explanation gleaned from 44
years as an MCH nurse (pre- and post Rhogam), please e-mail me privately.
