Hi Kathleen and Lactnetters,
Regarding Wages and Nestle('s Gold Mining here)!
If you half 'that Pakistani annual income' you quoted, you will be 'above'
the average income for the majority. Many don't even get that. The little
kids who rubbish collectto sell, shoeshine etc can make around Rs 10 -30
per month. Rs pay is so ranging a Assistant nurse wage is RS800 per month
while an Electritian tells me he is paid Rs 150-200 per month and the Staff
Nurse and 'Our' gardener gets Rs 1,500 per month. With the exchange rate
currently running at RS60= US $1. The Bottled water here is made by Nestle,
Pure Life brand and it was launched with the Governments blessing after the
SafeMotherhood program and Pakistan's Government Breastfeeding Policy.
Nestle's in the TV ad says it is clean and can be used with baby formula.
With a baby drinking a bottle- this has not been on TV the last few times
I've watched.

The bill boards says 'Nestle brings you NESTLE PURE LIFE, the safest
drinking water from the world leader in bottled water' AND A GLASS OF WATER.
This is also on the bottle infront of me!
"From a deep underground origin comes NESTLE PURE LIFE,a distilled water
balanced with essential minerals. Nestle Pure Life ensures the highest
standard of safety and quality, enhancing the health and well-being of your
family. Refreshing and pleasant, Nestle Pure Life is also ideal for beverage
preparation and cooking." Bottled by Nestle Milkpak Ltd,
Made in Lahore, Pakistan, Under licence of Societe des Products Nestle S.A,
Vevey, Switzerland, Trademark owners.

I fight to uphold Breastfeeding in our Baby Friendly Hospital. it takes a
lot of energy to get Babies BF before leaving hospital after delivery as
they(mother and bub) are lucky to be in hospital more than 4 hours post
delivery. The bill is paid and they are gone!

Subject: Nestles Pure LIfe Water

Two summers ago, when I was on my way to Europe to speak, I saw an article
in the Wall St. Journal outlining the Pure LIfe water that Nestles sells.

Now, as I understand it, this water costs a bundle, and I also read that
the average yearly income in Pakistan is $500, ...

There is a corporate push for money there, but it is an immoral and
horrific scene in which poor mothers and babies are taken advantage of by
this corporate megalogiant.

There may be nothing we can do about this except to adhere to the WHO code,
yell when we see violations, etc, but I am of the opinion that there will
be Karmic payback for this type of behavior.
