I worked with a mom in the spring of this year who had had the "free nipple"
technique breast reduction when she was 19. She had a baby in March when
she was 36. Everyone told her that since her nipple had been removed and
reattached on another part of her breast she would never be able to nurse
because there would be no passageway for the milk. Also she would be
greatly engorged for the same reason.

When she called prenatally to ask me I told her to assume that she could
breastfeed unless she found otherwise. She did make milk, it did come out
from both nipples and, in fact, she leaked all over the place. She
supplemented some at first because of an unsupportive husband and her own
doubt. But when her baby began having serious reactions to the abm, her
supply rebounded and she produced a good supply. She knows now that with
other babies there will be no question in her mind that she can make enough
milk for her. I find this truly amazing!
