This discussion has really been fun! Little did I dream when I asked that
plaintive question which really bugs me that we would be treated to a
learned discourse on the genesis of it all. In spite of the fact that the
mammaries apparently are not specialized or modified sweat glands (and
that still is "apparently", right? I didn't misunderstand?), to get back
to the original, Carrie's bringing it up as a solution to the bothersome
terminology of "emptying" the breast sounds good to me, since I am
addicted to analogies and my moms seem to appreciate comparisons. And I
still don't know........although a loooong time ago, I still remember
vividly those early few weeks, waking up at night absolutely drenched in
sweat (rioting pp hormones!). Sweat and breastmilk are forever linked in
my memory banks.....I'll be very interested to hear more on this
issue, ie, where the mammaries came from, once it's found. Judy K.
