>BFHI assessors are trained according to the guidelines from WHO/UNICEF, at
least in Europe. They must be knowledgeable about BF and they must be
women,
as they need to be acceptable on wards to go in and interview new mothers,
watch them breastfeed, and talk to them about it.<

Interesting Rachel. From 1992 - 1997 I was occassionally called on to be an
assessor, but now BFI UK don't use people from the voluntary orgs as we are
not professional enough. The director of BFI UK is a man, and he does
assessments, but maybe not of women, though MIke Woolridge did some
antenatal interviews when he and I were on a team together.

It sounds like it might be somewhat according to country. did you all knwo
that the UK has its own award? BFI UK award and BFI global award? The
difference is in the stats for breastfeeding uptake needed.

ps we say 'BFI' becasue there also exists a community award in the UK -- a
community facility -- eg doctor surgery, baby clinic, etc -- can go for the
community award, based on the seven points.
