Breastfeeding Pure and Simple, Gwen Gotch, LLL is excellent--large print,
illustrations, fairly complete; Amy Spangler's Breastfeeding, A Parents
Guide--good for professionals--lots of lists, straight forward, no frills,
good illustrations. Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is great, but repeats basic
info in every situation in which it applies and frequently extols LLL. For
parents who want basic info and have low reading skills, Why Should I Nurse
My Baby is good, also available in Spanish. Nursing Your Baby by Karen Pryor
has been mentioned several times. The chapter on the composition of human
milk is unbeatable (I believe the author is a biochemist), but I think
lactation management recommendations in the other books I have mentioned are
more consistent with current research. Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the
Newborn by Penny Simkin et.al. has an excellent chapter on breastfeeding.
Other info is also great for expectant parents. (Includes well-balanced,
researched based info on pain management in labor)
