Hi All,

 

My mommy group asked a question I couldn't answer:  Where does Gentian
Violet come from and what is it made out of?

 

Now, I went to wikipedia and became so confused with all the technical
information that really the best I got was that it is a dye and is not made
from the gentian plant.

 

My moms have heard it s a petroleum derivative as well as it comes from coal
tar.

 

Does anyone have info for us that we can actually understand?  :-)
