Putting on my language pedant hat:  I have noticed lately an epidemic of
people writing "loose" when they mean "lose".   Once may be a typo, more
becomes a trend.  Please stop before I LOSE my mind or end up with a screw
LOOSE!

A recent post stated that "the doctor would not agree to an SNS".  It's true
that, as nurses, we pretty much have to follow doctors' orders. (although we
can empower parents by educating them).  Fortunately ours will frequently
write their supplementation orders as "by syringe" rather than bottle.
However, following Jack's example here, I would say that how the milk gets
into the baby should be, in consultation with the MD and LC, the mother's
decision.  I would love to see mothers take more control in the decision-
making process.  A few years ago, I worked in a military hospital.  Most
people were used to "following orders" and not questioning things - not that
it's much different in a civilian hospital.  One mother came in and was in
prodromal labor.  The OB announced that they were going to start inducing her.
"Why?", she asked.  "We can't have you here in labor for days!"  was the
answer.  "Fine, then I'll go home", said the mom, which she did and came back
two days later and had a normal labor.  I cheered silently.  That was so rare!
