In addition to giving positive reinforcement for the time a mom did nurse, I
also like to mention that whatever led to weaning at this age will not
necessarily be the same with a subsequent child.  I often suggest she
contact an LC before the next baby is born to work out a plan ahead of time.
Especially when we have been working with a mom who has faced breastfeeding
challenges, we need to reassure her that either this situation was unique to
this nursing experience or (as in the case of an anatomical challenge on
mom's part) that with a subsequent baby, she would know from the start how
to better deal with it. I have seen a number of moms who had challenges with
a previous baby and won't even try with the next one.
