There probably are a lot of posts in the archives on breastmilk colitis,
bloody diarrhea...so if you want to take a look, you'll find a wealth of
information. First, the mom needs to be treated for depression, and can
safely have this treatment by one of many anti depressants (not Wellbutrin,
as it impacts supply in some mothers).

Secondly, if the baby is gaining weight well, and otherwise healthy, there
probably is no need to wean precipitously.

It sounds as though this mother needs familial support, and good diagnostic
tools, but also to support breastfeeding until proven that it is
detrimental.  Taking out dairy for 3 weeks at least will probably help. She
should be referred to Ruth Lawrence MD's book, Breastfeeding: A Guide for
the Medical Profession, which does not support precipitous weaning.
