When people would ask me why I nursed my child(ren) to a certain age, I
always said something like "In our society mothers don't often nurse
their children until (fill in age here) but it is very normal for our
species to nurse until that age."

My own daughter just weaned at age four.  I was thinking how young that
was, as I really wanted her to nurse longer.  My first daughter nursed
until almost six so four seemed so young to me.  Perspective is
everything isn't it.
