Hi all,

I havent been on here for several days. My 24 year old son is seriously ill
again. He has severe nausea and vomiting for 8 days now. Was admitted last
Thursday to a hospital 70 miles from home (Va. Beach) and has had many
tests. (endoscopy, upper, lower GIs, brain scan, to name a few) No diagnosis,
other than slight reflux (no heartburn though.) Two sets of
gastroenterologists are in on it now and they are recommending that if there
is no improvement soon, we go to Johns Hopkins and see Dr. Schuster, whose
specialty is stomach motility. Joe is now hooked up to a picc (sp?) line
and today is finally getting some nourishment. They tried to do abdomen ct
scans yesterday but he couldn't drink the contrast without vomiting. They
even tried to put it through a nose tube and immediately vomited that also
(even the tube came up.)
This is the second episode he has had. The first was in April and lasted 3
weeks, but was not as severe as this. He cannot even hold down ice chips
this time. Some of you may remember that the first time only his mom thought
to give him breastmilk and it was the FIRST thing he actually kept down
other than a few pedialyte popsicles. He immediately gained strength from
it and graduated to adult "formula" and then to solids, very much like a
newborn. I had to use my own resources to get the milk back then but this
time I want it prescribed and gotten from a milk bank. Of course, it is
going to get difficult, dealing with the doctors who will see me as just
another nut-case irrational mother.

Please, please, we are desperate. If anyone has ever seen this, and has
some answers, let me know by calling my 800 # or emailing. If there are any
gastroenterologists on here and you have any ideas, please contact me. I am
at home for a few hours and then I will be going back to the hospital and
able to receive email there. Does anyone know Dr. Schuster?

Thanks for listening.
