Theresa, thank you for sharing your children's stories.  They are tender
and gave me a warm feeling.

None of the mothers whom I have worked with either with LLL or as a
lactation consultant have commented on a reluctance to feed their boys as
long as they did they girls.  That doesn't mean that they didn't have those
concerns, of course.

I believe that nursing toddlers see the breasts as a comfort zone.  I asked
my then 8 year old daughter what she remembered about nursing and she
pondered a moment and said, "I remember that when I crawled up onto your
lap to nurse, I felt so safe."

I think that it is important to address the concerns of mothers if they
express them, acknowledging that those concerns may have come from another
person. If they are open to us about it, then we may be able to help with a
broader perspective.
