Many of us share the idea that babies that are circumcised will not
breastfeed as readily postcirc as they did before and especially if they
haven't fed well prior to circ. As a neonatal nurse, I am "changing"
one thing that our hospital has been doing for years and it's helping
with this problem. We are required to "watch" the circ for 30 minutes
after the procedure to check for complications. The circ is done in the
nursery and this observation time has been taking place in the
nursery, too. I have been taking the baby straight to mom's room to
breast feed and doing my "circ checks" there. I haven't had a baby not
breastfeed since changing where the observations were taking place.
