Since she was oedematous during her pregnancy, I wonder if your client was having a problem with sodium during her pregnancy?  The occasional woman may have problems with even tiny amounts of sodium, e.g. as the raising agent in cake or if a pinch of salt is added to cake, bread, etc. Sometimes avoiding sodium chloride isn't enough, and other sodium sources need to be addressed, e.g. bicarb soda (baking soda), MSG.  The pregnancy behind your client now, and of course was before you saw her, but it was just a thought that I had.
