Hi Pam, Good post. Lots to think about. Don't know if my director would go
for it but I think its great. I am an RN, IBCLC. I just don't want to tear each
other up because it has happened to many people I know. Some of our staff
are LC's only. Thats fine. Some are RN, IBCLC, like me. I had been for many
years a RNc, with a credential from NCC in breastfeeding. A hard exam very
much like the IBCLC. Once I started my own practice, I sat for the IBCLC
exam. Now i work as the "Nurse Lactation Consultant" at my local hospital. I
have written protocols on breastfeeding and the need for skin/skin contact. I
wrote the crib cards, which I think I sent you about the baby feeding cues.
So new parents would know when to nurse the baby. Also, states moms
preference. NO staff should be giving a baby a bottle if it is a breastfed
baby. It also says things like, I'm learning to breastfeed so please don't give
me a pacifier as it slows my progress down.. Blue for boys pink for girls.

Anyway, whether a RN, IBCLC or a IBCLC if our goal is the same whats the
difference? I was just responding to a post that said RN's do and LC's teach.
Nursing is teaching in every aspect. Doctor writes an order to give insulin.
Who teaches the pt about giving shots? Anyway, its not worth hurting
anyones feelings over, and I appreciated the last post from prior poster. No
hard feelings...

Thanks,
Robin
