Carroll
When my first child was born in 1974 car seats were a must , but not a
legally enforced as now. When this child was 12 weeks we took a car trip
from Atlanta , GA to Tyler Texas.(about 800 miles) My plan was to sit in
the back seat and nurse her as needed while dear Dad drove.
Her favorite position was lying down so this back seat of the car would not
do for her .After a few miles of struggle my husband stopped at a road rest
stop , spread a blanket on a picnic table and the child was happy with mom
lying on the picnic table. I have nursed on picnic tables at all the
interstate rest stops On I20 east to west and west to east between GA and
Texas. My husbands comment at the first stop was a line he must have picked
up somewhere ,but I haven't forgotten . He states "You set a fine table ,
my dear."
The three children who followed her were more adaptable to nursing positions
you can be sure I had my maternal identity by then and saw to that matter.
