Has anyone mentioned switch nursing as one technique to encourage sleepy babies with poor milk transfer to nurse better? The idea is to take them off the breast and switch to the second side as soon as they start to fall asleep. These babies usually fall asleep after 2-3-4 minutes of nursing, instead of starting to actively suck like we would want to see. This keeps them from falling into that deep dozing behavior early on at the breast where they are not sucking and is another reason why switch nursing seems to help some babies. Besides the milk production and prolactin aspects already mentioned.
