Dear Linda:
Although I missed most of the posts regarding the hrs. nurses use to count
towards their clinical hrs in breastfeeding experience, I agree w/ Pat that
it is those few "cheaters" that really seem to get to us. About a year ago I
posted my complaint about this same subject and wrote to the IBCLE board
about a certain candidate that I knew didn't have the hrs. Basically, I was
told by IBCLE the same thing that Pat was told and also received some private
email from some lactnetters that I was just jealous. No, it isn't fair as
some of us have worked out tails off for years and counted our hours
honestly. Maybe some of those LC's will turn out to be great and someone we
can be proud to call our own. Maybe standardization of the credentialing
process would help to prevent this problem. As it is now, all we have to
count on is the honesty of the candidate and those verifying their
credentials.
So be it. All I can say, is that I am proud of what I have done to help moms
& babies and that is what counts.
Shalom, Suzanne Bowes RN, IBCLC
