Is it possible to have a unilateral letdown? I saw a lady today with
her first baby, 2 weeks old. Baby born at 38 wks, IUGR, gained 15
grams in 1 week. Baby taking 1 hour to feed. Baby well attached
and positioned, left breast and nipple no problem. Right breast full,
red areas moving all around the breast on different days, currently
medially red at 4 0'clock. Mum has had 2 attacks of mastitis in
that breast. Baby feeds well from left, a little unsettled on right.
Definately letting down on left side during feeds. No milk leaks
from right side and if baby feeds from right first, is very unsettled
after feeds. Breast doesn't feel empty to touch, feeding makes no
difference. Can't express any milk from right, but obviously there.
No blocked ducts noted, no "white blebs". Any suggestions?
