I have used probiotics very successfully to stop yeast diaper rashes and 
diarhea. They make infant type probiotics in a powder form. I use 
probiotics myself when I get intestinal issues.

I now have concerns about even suggesting moms get a second opinion. By 
saying "you could get a second opinion if you want", you are hinting or 
even outright saying that the doctor is wrong and another may have a 
different opinion. This contradicts the information given by the doctor. 
Also by saying that some doctors are more experienced in XYZ, you could 
be contradicting the doctor by suggesting there is other information out 
there that is more correct.

I hope this makes sense, but the lay lawyer in me sees even suggesting 
she go to another doctor is borderline contradicting. The first doctor 
could very easily say his/her advice was not followed and was 
contradicted by the IBCLC suggesting mom go to someone else. Even if you 
don't make this as a suggestion, mom is going to take it as one.

I am very nervous about the new expectations coming out of IBLCE and 
feel we are caught between keeping quiet and helping moms to the fullest 
capacity that we can and based on what our textbooks say. I have had a 
few physicians disagree about sending a baby to the SLP, for example, 
but when moms do this, they are very happy to have the right help and to 
improve baby's oral motor skills. The physicians feel that bottle 
feeding is a better option or that baby will improve on it's own. Same 
thing about tongue tie.
