The other thing you need to remember is that so many of these "anti" people
weren't fortunate enough to hear about breastfeeding when they had their
babies. Maybe no one told them how important it was, maybe no one helped
them. I wasn't "successful" at breastfeeding until my 4th baby. When it
really worked and I learned how good it is, I had a lot of regret about
not nursing my first 3 for very long.

Who was influencing my life at that time? My mom, who never nursed past 3
weeks, my mil, who had BF but thought she had to not interfere (she told me
this years later), my sil -the RN, who I thought was so smart -she bot fed
and said it was just fine and so easy.....there was no LLL, my dr said bots
were fine, my peers at church - No one BF. I eventually stumbled on LLL
in 1966 and nursed baby #4 successfully and became a "zealot." I learned
personally how important BF is to the health of MY baby, I became a LLLL,
then an IBCLC. My avocation is breastfeeding.

I'm sure if I had been your L & D nurse in 1960 I would have said "bots are
fine honey and so easy". Live and learn. The fact that they are reacting
at all means they have noticed what you do, they are learning and,
perhaps, regreting how they fed their own babies. It's a lot to deal with.
 Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
