IME the "texture" of women's breasts can influence which pump will work best
for them. I have seen some women with extremely fibrous firm breasts (not
engorged) who have minimal movement of the breast into the flange with even
a Classic pump on maximum strength. The restricted movement has prevented
effective expressing as the sinuses were not being compressed into the
flange.

If I have a mum who has rented a Lactina, and is now interested in
purchasing a PIS, my rule of thumb has been to ask about their preferred
suction level on the pump. If they were consistently and comfortably pumping
with the suction level on three quarters or full then IME they are going to
find the PIS inadequate. These mums that buy the PIS tell me they need to
pump more frequently to match the amounts expressed with either the Classic
or Lactina.

Best wishes,
