Hey all,

I haven't been around for awhile and am looking forward to being back for a
bit. Hopefully, anyway;) I've got my hands full since Alana is three and
Lila is 7.5 mos and has just taken up crawling. She has been the most
peaceful baby. It's been so much fun.

Anyhoo, now onto the good stuff. I get a call from a mom who's been referred
to me by one of the hb mw's around here. She was planning a homebirth when
twins were discovered at 22 weeks. About a week later, during a higher res
u/s, it was discovered to be a monoamniotic pg. Not only will mom not be
having a hb but mom will be going into the hospital one week from today for
cont efm....with a possible emergency c at any time and delivery definitely
at 32 weeks if not before (cord compression etc etc)

Mom's really knowledgeable about everything she needs to be knowledgeable
about, dad is a scientist, they've been dissecting all of the monoamniotic
lit out there and have it all well in hand....still tough as you can imagine.

At this point, they feel that anyone can monitor the babies and get them out
as needed but are interested in finding anyone who is an 'expert' in this
area either in Atlanta or Boston. They live her in Atlanta, but Boston is an
option b/c all of mom's family is there which would be great while she's in
the hospital for the next 8 weeks. They have a three year old who would
probably love to hang with his cousins while mom is away;/
Ugh...professional hat off....she's just weaning him right now and it's soooo
hard for her emotionally. He's doing fine with it.....

Anyhoo, what she's *really* looking for (more even than an expert in dealing
with momo twins) is the best place for the girls to be once they both get
here. Optimally, a place that is supportive and encouraging of kangaroo
care, a place that will support babies getting all breastmilk with no
supplemental formula (if she can pump enough), and a place where first oral
feeds can be breastfeeds. She's got all the lit but doesn't want to have to
fight with neonatologists and nurses.

Anyone have insider NICU info for any of the atl or boston area
hospitals....anyone who is exceptionally forward thinking in the care of
preemies?

Feel free to email privately if you're not comfy with public discussions of
your hospitals. I'll keep names confidental. Since i'm not working for
anyone and don't have to be worried about politics, I'll state that
generally, mom's who've come to me with tales of Piedmont and Northside (here
in atl) have had to give first oral feeds from bottles - with no discussion
on the matter. This mom is exceptionally knowledgeable and is armed with
resources and cites, but she doesn't want to have to battle once babies are
here. Wants to get all of her ducks in a row so to speak, so that she's
surrounded by supportive ppl when she needs them.

Any info on NICU's, perinatologists and neonatologists would be helpful-
Boston or Atlanta
