day care info on the basis of the idea that day care is intrinsically
un-breastfeeding friendly. That's all I was saying.

And I think it would be helpful for mothers to find out -- from someone,
somewhere, during pregnancy or at delivery -- that it is perfectly possible
to combine work outside the home and continued breastfeeding. That's all >>

Kathy,
I agree with everything you say. And, I do think you also got my point. I
work very hard to support bf'ing mothers who are working in whatever way
away
from their babies, including providing as much info as possible during
pregnancy. In CT, our health dept is sending LC's and others into day care
centers to train them about ways they can support bf. I just spent a couple
of hours the other night going through the packet to find incorrect or
inconsistent info, so I am very committed to this. Still, I think that
anything we give from a medical institution in the pp period reflects a
belief about what is normal and/or preferred. So, I think that women should
be educated about daycare via another venue. Many women do change their
minds
once they give birth about work choices. Would mothers be as inclined to
reevaluate their choices if they were almost directed from birth into
bf-friendly daycare? To me, it's a very slippery slope.
