Dear Lactnet Friends,

I've been reading the posts since early Jan. except for about two months
no-mail due to hip reconstruction surgery in my daughter with Down's
Syndrome. Now that I'm back I have two questions which I hope you can help
me with. Let me introduce myself first.

Louise Wills, Leader in Waterbury, CT with the Group I cofounded in 1970.
Married for nearly 31 years to Charlie, a school psychologist who will
retire in June. Mother to Timothy (30), Kathrene (28), Daniel (26), and
Erika (24). Erika is the one who recently had surgery. My background is
teaching - elementary and special ed - but I retired a second time when my
children finished college. I've done a variety of LLL jobs; current one is
EUS Divisional Publications Administrator. I also have a BASP "center" and
rent electric pumps.

Questions: 1. I've been a pump rental associate since the mid-70's. I
recently received a new contract, and my husband is concerned about
liability. I called a company rep, who said there's never been a problem and
we shouldn't worry. My husband wonders, in this suit-happy age, if there
would be personal liability for any damage caused to someone who rents. Has
anyone had any experience with this?
2. Are there any studies correlating breastfeeding with less likelihood of
substance abuse? My coLeader and I would like to apply for a grant, but we'd
need to be able to document the relationship.

Thank you for any help you can offer with either or both questions.
