Sounds like the baby American Indian swaddled on his cradle board :-)  Which
was used for a purpose.  To keep baby quiet, for safety, for ease in moving
baby etc.  The cradle board was used in the same way as a sling in Africa.
Who knows how it evolved?  this has been an interesting discussion :-)
