Hello fellow Lactnetters!

I am looking for information on using sulfadiazine (Microsulfon) during
lactation, especially in the early days postpartum with a full-term baby?

The information is not in Hale; though other sulfa drugs are. I presume
this is because newer sulfa drugs and nitrofurantoin are common
alternatives.

Briggs, Freeman, and Yaffe recommend not using sulfas in mothers of ill,
stressed, or preterm nursing babies. I am already aware of the risks
associated with sulfas during late pregnancy and in preterm nursing babies.

Your comments are welcomed.

Sincerely,
Kate Cropp CNP, IBCLC, MSN
