In response to Norma's question-Imitrex is available in 100mg tablets &
injectable liquid of 6mg/0.5ml. The source I checked states it can be given
orally or by subcutaneous injection. There is no mention of IM route. Doses:
6 mg SQ with maximum dosage of two 6mg injections per day. With SQ injection,
onset occurs within 10-15 minutes after the injection is given, serum levels
peak about 12 minutes after injection given, peak effects occur within 1-2
hours after the injection, & duration is unknown. Reference: Nursing96 Drug
Handbook from Springhouse publishing

Hope this helps! Debi Savage RN, BSN, SNM(hope to be IBCLC after 7/96 exam!!)
