My dear computer colleagues,
I have ptp from a mom whose second child(1st breastfed 14mos) was in the nicu 6 weeks and is recently home.He has a large hemagioma on his left arm which is bandaged. He is taking inteferon, prednisone, rinitadine and amacar. Mom was told that baby is probably naseous from the inteferon which he is given by injection every other day. She notices that he seems depressed on those days, grumpier, doesn't move around as much etc. He is very difficult to feed bottle or breast. He doesn't seem to want to eat and they usually have to force feed him the bottles. He is getting breastmilk fortified with powdered infant formula (enfamil with iron) to bring the calories up to 26/oz.so that if they can get an ounce into him it has more to it.One ounce can take an hour with the bottle. They have seen an OT who basically recommended medium flow nipples on the bottles. She has had a few sessions where he has latched on and fed well, but it seems to be random. He also has a broviac across his chest
which makes it hard for her to bring him as close in as ideal. Mom also has a fine motor disability which leads her to jerk when attempting certain movements. Is that enough challenges? She is pumping which she finds difficult. She also struggles to hold the bottles and would really like to get him on the breast more.I showed her assym. latch and worked on position, pillows etc. but he was very grumpy and not himself be her reckoning and we didn't get him latched on to feed.
Anyone have any experiences or recommendations that would help this mom?
