Kathy
I had a similar experience with a mother who kept getting mastitis. She
had successfully breastfed 2 children before. She appeared to have an
adequate supply, though baby's gains were slightly less than optimal.
At around 4 months baby was hospitalised due to vomiting, dehydration
and FTT. It turned out that baby had pernicious anaemia, secondary to
maternal pernicious anaemia of unknown cause. Mother is a meat
eater.Apparently this is very rare, but it made me realise that
recurrent mastitis may be caused by a health problem in the infant
causing ineefective suck.
