Hi Naomi,
I also have an interest in this subject because of the commonality with
adoptive breastfeeding that it is breastfeeding a child that the woman did
not give birth to. Some time in the not too distant future I will be
commencing a project looking at breastfeeding of foster children.....very
muddy waters there. Anyway I also have not found a great deal of information
on this subject Ina May Gaskin's "Babies, Breastfeeding and Bonding" has a
chapter on Shared Nursing that might be of interest but really there just
seems to be anecdotes here and there (like one in The Spirit Catches You and
You Fall Down). What are the refs you have from Leaven and Pediatrics?
The day after the ILCA conference, Fiona Giles organised another day of
talks from some academics whose background is not in science or medicine (ie
feminists/writers/economist). One of these women has cross nursing as an
interest (she is actually looking how all body fluids are viewed). I am
still catching up on a few things and will need to dig out her name and
contact details (maybe someone else who was there has it handy?) but she may
have more references to pass on.
May I ask what you are specifically looking at?
