So, rather then bashing the exams per se, why not to talk about "senior 
citizen" or "senior lactation consultant" discount?

Then what we are actually asking the IBLCE is the institution of two 
simple things -
- emeritus status (retired IBCLCs that are opting out of the exam but 
would like to keep the designation) and
- senior status (IBCLCs over the age of ... 65, that is still actively 
practicing but are given a significant discount after passing let's say 
two or more exams)

This way the integrity of the system will be preserved with the minimum 
of expense/problems for the organization. 50%, even 75% off for our 
MATURE but still ACTIVE ADULT members ;D would not make a huge dent in 
the IBLCE's pocket but will retain the great old knowledge and traditions.

What do you think?
