Esti,
The reason we see certain brands of meds turn into household names here
is due to the aggressive marketing of the pharmaceutical companies. The
reps visit doctors, hospitals and tipat chalav (well baby clinics) and
hand out tons of promotional goodies. I have a list of about 10
products that are routinely recommended for mothers and babies which are
a waste of money. The particular brand of cream you mentioned is one of
them. It is not formulated specifically for cracked nipples. It is an
all-purpose cream for chafing and skin irritation. I personally
wouldn't let a baby get it in his mouth. I am still in favor of a few
drops of mother's milk + airing out the nipples. I try to convince the
mom to stay away from tight fitting bras - especially the ones that are
not cotton and have a seam going right across the nipple. Paper breast
pads don't help either.
