I have permission to post from a mom who called me this afternoon.

She is still breastfeeding (and is newly pregnant) and works full-time as a
school teacher, so she doesn't nurse too much during the week. Saturday
she nursed "all day" and the baby broke out in a rash, hives I think, since
the clinic gave her benadryl, but she says "a flat rash."

The toddler doesn't nurse during the night and didn't nurse before church
Sunday, and the rash was basically gone by then. Then she nursed Sunday
afternoon and the rash was back. Ditto today after she got home from work.

I asked mom about anything new in her diet or environment and also about
baby's diet. Mom ate gummy worms, which she said was a new food. No other
foods out of the ordinary. No foods out of the ordinary for baby. Mom
also started using a new shampoo the end of last week. She also just found
out she is expecting another baby.

Could this be dye in the gummy worms? the shampoo? something related to
pregnancy hormones affecting a male toddler? I asked a lot of questions
but really have no clue. Can anyone shed some light on this.

P.S. I guess I've been lurking or no-mail for a long time and haven't
posted in months. So as a brief re-introduction, I am a nurse working for
the Apache Diabetes Wellness Center and planning to test next July (05).
My job is promotion of breastfeeding on the reservation (we have about 250
deliveries a year). My current major projects are our second peer
counselor class, and getting the first class all functional, and a tribal
resolution encouraging exclusive breastfeeding.
