I've had two new moms call me today with questions I'm not sure of.
Mom #1 had a c-section two days ago. This is her first baby. She called to
ask me a few general questions and then told me she has what appear to be tiny
little blood blisters on the very end of her nipples. She said they are not
painful, but she is on pain meds, so perhaps she just doesn't feel pain from
them. Baby is nursing well and frequently. What are these little "blood
blisters" and what's causing them? I'm assuming when she's off her pain meds
these are going to hurt.
Mom #2 delivered this morning. A few days ago she went to her OB for itchy,
painful vagina and was diagnosed with vaginal yeast and given medication.
After she delivered she asked her OB if she should continue the medication and
the OB said no, the yeast would resolve on it's own now that she has
delivered. She also asked if her baby was at increased risk of thrush because
of the vaginal yeast infection and OB said no. She called to ask me. Seems
to me the babe would be more likely to get thrush, but wanted some factual
back-up before I "contradict" her doctor.
TIA!
