Forgive me for not having a reference.  I have only a moment.  I am 
married to a celiac and mother to two of them who never got that bad 
because we knew what we were up against.

  I have read in the literature that one reason celiac is often 
diagnosed after weaning is that bf causes more villi to grow in the 
babies' guts, when the celiac is killing off villi.  In the same source 
(I'll get looking!) it pointed out that bf causes vili growth in the 
mom, too!  Which would mean that continuing to breastfeed would help 
the mom.
