This would be a situation where a nipple shield might help. Helps baby get a
firmer latch. Helps the sore nipple issue for mom.

Warmly,

Subject: High Arched Palate

Saw a patient today with a baby boy, 2 months old. She's been breastfeeding
exclusively up until about 2-3 weeks ago when the baby started getting
extremely fussy at the breast. He latches inconsistently well, but she
knows
to take him off and relatch. She does have some sore nipple issue, which is

probably latch related. Upon evaluation the baby seems to have a mild to
moderate high arched palate. Other then encouraging her to feed frequently
and pump milk when necessary is there anything that can be done? The
resources seem to say "wait it out, baby will grow into the palate arch."

Thank you for your collective insight.

Lea
