HI All,
IT seems to me that this could be a case of severe allergic reaction to the
immunizations. From the post it appears that the problems started with the
1st immun. and was much worse after the 2nd. (If it were me, I'd NOT give
the baby any more immunizations, as a precaution.) There may also be a
possible allergy thing going on here as well. This baby may have more than
one problem. I'd also have mom take other allergens out of her diet : nuts,
corn, wheat, to name a couple fo the most common offenders.
Though I hate to suggest it, mom could try a week or so of Nutramigen, if
she is really worried, and see how baby does. If the blood goes away
completely, then it may be something in her diet. But, this would be a last
resort, I would think.
This really hollers allergy to the immunization. What other immunzations
did the baby get along with the DTP? The standard regime?

On a personal note, bc of bad reactions to the DTP with my first son, my 2nd
went into a study of the DTP vs DTaP and got the DTaP instead. HE had no
reactions (and verifeid thru testing was found to have the neccessary
immunities as a result). However, with PJ, I have waited. At almost 6 mo,
he has not had any shots at all. My gut is telling me it would be a mistake
to give them at this time. MY Ped said that, as long as he wasn't in day
care, or exposed to a lot of people (which he isn't), that he could wait up
'till 2 yrs and be OK. I don't know if I'll wait that long, or if we will
even go ahead with all the immun's but it was nice to know that, as long as
he isn't around a bunch of unknown people/germs, that we could wait and
still be safe.

Let us know how this mom does. If she does choose to stop BF for a while to
"see what happens", please have her pump and keep up a milk supply. She may
very well be able to go back to BF very soon, which, as we all know, would
be better for the baby.
