-A mother has contacted an LC friend. She very much wants to breastfeed
this baby who is due in 2 1/2 weeks. She weaned her first child at 3 months
due to nipple yeast which was evident and painful from the first nursing,
she states. One dose of Diflucan was given to her which, of course, did
not resolve the problem. She fervently hopes to nurse this next baby. She
admits to eatting a lot of sugar and doesn't know how to break this
addiction.
She does not have a history of vaginal yeast. Her nipples are currently
tender and pink and mom fears this next nursing will follow the same
painful course.
What, if any, treatment would be appropriate prior to delivery? Any
suggestions welcome. TIA
