I found the same problem when using the SNS with both of my boys. We
were very concerned about not being able to use the SNS as the
directions indicated and were only able to get the contents of the
bottle to flow when the second tube was open, making it impossible to
nurse both with the SNS simultaneously.

As both babies became more efficient nursers, they were eventually able
to remove milk from the SNS with the second tube closed, but it still
required lots of jostling of the bottle and opening and closing the
tubes. Only after they could nurse with the second tube closed did we
move to the smaller tubing.

Dealing with the SNS was probably the most frustrating part of our
entire nursing experience so far. I will admit to flinging it across
the room and crying on several occasions.
