>>I would like someone to explain to me just why they think a LICENSE to
practice will improve things for the lactation consultant. Do you think a
hospital will be more likely to hire a Licensed Lactation Consultant (LLC)
over a IBCLC?<<

Jan, I can answer this question for my situation. In California, you have to
be licensed in order to provide services for Medi-Cal. As a private practice
LC, I cannot bill Medi-Cal for my services, yet my community has a large
proportion of Medi-Cal recipients and not enough lactation services to go
around. Many insurance companies use the Medi-Cal criteria as their own as
well. Will a hospital be more likely to hire me? I don't know for sure,
but everyone here is so focused on that darn license. I might actually be
able to make a living if I could bill Medi-Cal for consults.
