The coordinators of Proyecto Lacta (3 Pediatricians, women and breastfed)
asked me to post my job description in Lactnet to see if someone would be
interested in coming to Puerto Rico to work.

The requirements are:

Bilingual (Spanish - English)
IBCLC

Nursing degree is desirable but not required, as I give classes to nurses
and it helps for credibility - especially until one is established.


Job Description - Lactation Consultant

I. Basic Function:

        Provide services for clients through personal contact, telephone
assistance and the creation of educational material.

        Coordinates and is the primary educator in breastfeeding education
programs directed to health care professionals.

II. Relationships

        Reports to: Project Director and Physicians
        Supervises: Peer Counselor, together with Project Director

III. Primary Responsibilities

1.      Provides Lactation Consultant services to clients who come in to the
agency, referring them to the Proyecto Director or other providers
(internally or externally) when necessary.
2.      Provides Telephone counseling services.
3.      Trains and supervises Peer Counselor.
4.      Creates Patient Education material
5.      Assists clients in purchasing products and instructs them as needed.
6.      Designs and writes publicity and presentation material when needed.
7.   Develops and delivers educational programs to health care
professionals.

IV. Periodic Responsibilities

1.      Performs surveys related to grant responsibilities.
2.      Attends community meetings representing Proyecto Lacta.
3.      Provides education sessions for mothers and professionals as needed.
4.  Other duties as assigned
