Hi Lactnetters,

Have any of you heard of mastitis before actually giving birth. This is an
e-mail from one of my clients and I don't know what to tell her to do for
this. I have her permission to post....
I do have another question for you (I'm sure I'll have plenty more in a
few days too). On Labor Day weekend I woke up with a golf ball sized lump
in my right breast and it scared the crap out of me. I told my OB about
it and she sent me to a surgeon next door. He did a biopsy and turns out
its not cancerous, but I have chronic mastitis! Have you heard of this
happening before someone gives birth? I had a follow up appointment
yesterday. There's still a little lump in there but the doctor says its
natural because of the hormones and my body is preparing for lactation. So
for now, I'm not supposed to do anything and hope it just goes away and
doesn't cause problems during breastfeeding. I'm just curious on your
opinion on this or if you've heard of this happening to anyone else?

Any help sure would be appreciated!
