June 1, 1996, ILCA will be participating with thousands of other organizations
in the first STAND FOR CHILDREN rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
This event, organized by the Children's Defense Fund, will be a national day to
affirm our society's commitment to children, a call - to - action for all people
to unite behind the common goal of raising healthy, educated, and moral
children. The focus will be on concrete steps that every American can take to
ensure that no child is left behind.
ILCA believes that breastfeeding is integral to the intent of this event, and
needs your help in encouraging ILCA members to attend the rally and to present
this message at the Lincoln Memorial.
ILCA is cooperating with La Leche League to set up an area for breastfeeding-
supportive people to congregrate---parents, children, lactation consultants, LLL
Leaders, La Leche League members etc. We will meet at the Korean Veterans
Memorial beginning around 8:30 am. The Korean Memorial is on the left side of
the Lincoln Memorial ( as you face it), across the reflecting pool from the
Vietnam Veterans's Memorial. If you arrive by Metro (DC's subway system),
depart the "Foggy Bottom/GWU" or the "Smithsonian" stops. Either way, you will
have to walk about a mile to get to the Memorials.

Event Itinerary: 9am-12noon Childrens events/activities
                            12-1pm March for Children
                  1-3pm Presentations/Programs

Many events are yet to be finalized by the event organizers, but there will be
food vendors and port-a-potties at least.
If you think you or friends will be able to attend this event, please notify the
ILCA office ASAP at 312/541-1710, FAX:312/541-1271 for further information. The
on-site contact person for ILCA will be Doraine Baily (KY,). I hope ILCA will
have a sizeable representation.
