The early "fog" of childbirth is one thing, but I'm also referring to long
before that and long after that- like when one is choosing her health-care
provider or deciding on prenatal testing or *choosing* (and I use this word
with regret) how to feed their newborn baby before the baby arrives or
deciding where to have the baby sleep. Just a few examples that come to
mind for me when I think of moms blindly accepting the recommendations of
some authority.

Absolutely right, and this is why this AAP recommendation will really do a
great disservice to many, many families. Because there will be parents who
would otherwise have enjoyed a wonderful breastfeeding relationship with
their babies in bed with them that will now passively comply with the AAP
recommendation.

Oh yes, definitely! And parents need to teach their children to question.

>I DO NOT think that most people are *not terribly bright,* but I DO
>think that they are poorly educated

Correction accepted. :-) I realized after sending the post that my
half-hearted attempt at political-correctness was probably not going to go
over too well with people. (But maybe we could just change *most* to
*many*?? ;-)

> If we only SEE babies doing certain things, we

Yes, exactly. And that is why it is so very important for all nursing moms
to nurse any age baby/child anytime, anywhere. The more society sees this,
the more breastfeeding is normalized

>What we need to do, of course, is to change the cultural norm to the
>biological norm.

We're all doing our darnedest; I know that! :-)
