Since the subject of placenta has come up again, I'd like to know what you all think about encapsulated placenta postpartum. I know we have discussed it before and the most oft cited study was done 50 years ago on a small population and does not point conclusively towards its use as a galactagogue. Everything in my teaching affirms that milk comes in when the placenta comes out and I don't understand how placenta could work to increase milk supply. It is very popular here in Oregon and if it has a placebo affect, I'm all for it. But I worry especially about women who have had difficulty making/maintaining milk supply in the past and these are the women most likely to want to encapsulate their placentas. What say y'all?
