Results of the study, "Baby's Toxic Bottle: Bisphenol A Leaching from
Popular Baby Bottles," commissioned by Environmental Defence of Canada and
researched by the laboratory of Frederick vom Saal, PhD, at the University of
Missouri, show that, when new bottles are heated, those manufactured by
Avent, Evenflo, Dr. Brown's and Disney/First Years leached between 4.7 - 8.3 parts
per billion of BPA.

Moms are in such a bind these days.
Situation: Mom has baby, weeks after frenotomy, and baby cannot latch well
enough to get efficient, comfortable feeds at breast, also mom's supply
remains woefully low. Mom is using a bottle system that does not have BPA, however
does mean disposing of liner each time which is bad for the environment.
Also: recent conference with two prominent speech pathologists who are also
breastfeeding experts - they recommend a BPA-type bottle as the best in terms of
design of the nipple and flow rate, saying as long as the mom doesn't store
milk in it, or heat anything in it, should be ok.
Mom is frantic about formula, because baby reacted horribly to regular
formula, but all hypoallergenics she found have DHA/ARA, which is now also on the
table as a real concern.
Not enough milk banks.
Mom is concerned about the bottles. Not enough assistive feeding devices
that are easy to use, safe for baby, and actually might facilitate future/better
normal feeding at breast.

My heart goes out to these moms who only want to breastfeed their babies,
and enjoy it, want to have happy babies, and not experience pain with every
feeding, not have to pump, not have to rely on formula they cannot trust...
Can it be only a matter of time at least until this BPA thing is resolved?

Peace,
Judy
