      Hello everyone,
I have just had 3 mothers with severe toxemia and all three
have had problems with milk supply. One had such severe oedema of her
breasts that the baby could not latch. All have been on methyldopa 250mgs
8 hourly ,which on the package insert says causes hyperprolact-
aemia, which I did not experience. I used the breastpump three hourly on
all three and fed the babies by softcup. Eventually the mothers did
start to produce milk ie after 3 days. One had a blood transfusion when it
was found that she had a Hb of 5.7. and after that she produced milk at 5
days. I have no experience of this and would be grateful for any advice on
how to manage it. Did check archives and Ruth Lawrence. The positive
side of this is that it has stimulated a lot of interest in the nurses!
Thanks.
